After she moved on to pursue a BTech in mining engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad and passed out in the year 1965. While he is early career Jaswant Singh joined the coal firm of Karam Chand Thapar and Sons. Later he joined Coal India Ltd. in 1973 and retired in March 1998 from the post of executive director. He has been passed away on 26 November 2019 following cardiac arrest.

Jaswant Singh Gill Rescue Operation
On November 13, 1989, 65 miners were in the Colliery of Raniganj Coalfields when an explosion inadvertently disturbed the upper layer of the mine, by leading to a sudden inflow of water. At that time Jaswant Singh Gail was posted there as an additional chief mining engineer. He proposed the concept of drilling a new bore hole of 22 inches in diameter by fabricating a still capsule that could carry one person at a time with respect to the bore well hole and pull the trapped miners one by one with using the capsule transportation through the borehole.
The work on the borehole has been digging as well and the Steel capsule fabrication took 72 hours and he himself went down in the capsule to rescue the miners. By 8:30 a.m. on 16 November all of the 65 miners were brought out with the help of the capsule and during the whole course of the capsule operation Jaswant Singh Gill was rescuing the workers and he came out after everyone had been rescued.
