Susan Hoffinger Wikipedia, Wiki, Bio, Husband, Attorney – A new prosecutor has been chosen for leading a criminal probe into the former United States President Donald Trump, the Manhattan district attorney office said on the Friday after the departure of the two top lawyers which throw the future of the investigation into the question.
New York Criminal Probe has New Prosecutor
Susan Hoffinger is now going to lead the probe into Donald Trump and practices with respect to its family business organization that is according to Danielle Wilson who is the spokeswoman for Alvin Bragg who is the Manhattan district attorney.
This week special Counsel Carey Dunne and Mark Pomerantz who had been leading the probe started by former district attorney Cyrus Vance – resigned. The New York Times reported that they left after Bragg which indicates that he had doubts about pursuing of case against Trump. Reuters has not been able to reach the Dunne or Pomerantz.
Ron Fischetti, a lawyer for Trump did not immediately respond with a request for comment on his appointment. On Wednesday, Fischetti set the departures indicating the case is over and that Bragg would not bring charges against Donald Trump.
Both Bragg’s probe as well as a separate civil investigation by New York State Attorney General Letitia James focus on whether Trump misrepresented the value of his real estate properties. Investigators have been looking into whether values were inflated for obtaining bank loans and reduced to lower tax bills.
Trump is a Republican who had left office in January 2021 which had previously denied wrongdoing and said both the state as well as city investigations for politically motivated. She has not ruled out seeking the presidency which is again in 2024. Both the Bragg and James are democrats, as is Vance, who did not seek re-election.
The criminal probe resulted last July in tax fraud charges which are against a Trump organization and its long-time chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg. Both Weisselberg and the company have pleaded not guilty. Neither the Trump organisation nor its lawyer Alan Futeras immediately responded to a request for comment.
Last week state judge overseeing the James probe health directed Trump and his adult children who are Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump to answer questions under oath in depositions. The family of Trump will appeal that ruling their lawyer said.
