Her parents got divorced divine she was 3 years old after which her mother moved to San Francisco where she married a telephone lineman named Harrison Connor Huffman. She then took off her stepfather’s surname.
She inherited her mother’s singing and started performing them as a child in her Church choir where she sang solos. She honed her vocal abilities as she grew older and soon started earning dollar 10 per night club performance.

She then enrolled at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music to study music and later at the Elizabeth Holloway School of Theatre where she studied acting. She attended Abraham Lincoln High School in San Francisco where she has been graduated in 1949. She had started acting at the City College of San Francisco where she only studied acting for 1 year.

She had a son named Matthew Ansara who was born on 29 August 1965. She had conceived him shortly after filling the pilot for I Dream of Jeannie. It was her first child with her first husband whose name is Michael Ansara, to whom she was married from the year 1958 to 1974.
Matt has been passed away on 25 June 2001 at the age of 35. He was found dead in the car following an accidental drug overdose. After the death of a son, she experienced an emotional crisis which she had written about in the 2011 memoir. All she remarried advice and was only her son who followed his famous parents to become an actor.

Since 1964 she has appeared in around 18 feature films but none of them have been notable in up for her to break through. She had appeared in Many television shows and her supporting role in The Brass Bottle caught the attention of the producer Sidney Sheldon who gave given the role of Jeannie in the fantastic sitcom I Dream of Jeannie.
The sitcom premiered on NBC in 1965 and then moved on to become a hit, garner a cult following, and Kickstart her career. The show has been aired for 5 years with a total of 139 episodes. By the end of the show, she had become a staple of cinema. Her next big gig is the role of Stella Johnson in the feature film Harper Valley PTA (1978) which was also about a popular country song.
Her acting career had started to pay in the middle of 1990. However she has vocationally made appearances with her autobiography, Barbara Eden: My Story, published in 1986, and in 2011 she published her memoir, Jeannie Out of the Bottle.
